In addition, seven technical papers and a contribution to a special session will be presented by members of the consortium on research undertaken within DRIVE C2X.

In the Exhibition section, DRIVE C2X will present the project status at the exhibition area of the European Commission (Hall B, C20). The DRIVE C2X stand will also feature the Test Management Center of the cooperative driving live demonstration staged at Hall A.

This live demonstration of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium (C2C CC) and Testfeld Telematik (TT) will be powered by DRIVE C2X technology, using the newly validated DRIVE C2X reference system. Visitors are invited to register for this opportunity to experience C2X technology in real traffic conditions.

And finally, DRIVE C2X will premiere a short film that highlights the benefits of cooperative mobility in a humourous fashion.

DRIVE C2X @ DITCM, Helmond, the Netherlands

DRIVE C2X is close to its key milestone "FOT system validated". The project invites you to examine the DRIVE C2X system with a day of demonstrations, exhibitions and workshops. The event will be hosted on 5 July 2012 in Helmond, The Netherlands.

The milestone marks the completion of the pan-European reference system from DRIVE C2X. The system unites approaches from several C2X projects and will serve as the basis for DRIVE C2X's seven test sites. Moreover, other C2X projects will refer to the developed system.

Tying in with the successful first event in Friedberg, DRIVE C2X presents the reference system at its system test site named Dutch Integrated Testsite for Cooperative Mobility:

  • The event DRIVE C2X @ DITCM will let you experience the test track with live driving demonstrations in cars from various OEMs.
  • You can gain insight into the workings of the reference system by discussing the exhibits with members of the project.
  • You can learn about the ideas and views of the participants during the interactive discussions in workshops.

When registering, you can still influence the workshops by sending questions and topics you would like to discuss during the workshops.

The preliminary agenda for the event is as follows:

09:00 Registration
09:30 Welcome & intro
10:00 Workshop 1: The DRIVE C2X reference system

11:30 Demonstrations, lunch, interactions

14:30 Workshop 2: Data collection, management, sharing
15:30 Coffee break
15:45 Workshop 3 (panel discussion): Deployment perspectives and potential pitfalls
16:45 Conclusion
17:00 End

The location for the event is the TNO campus in Steenovenweg 1, 5708 HN Helmond (directions).

1st ITS Cooperative Mobility Plugtest, Helmond, the Netherlands

DRIVE C2X partners used the opportunity to test their implementations of the ITS networking & transport and facilities layer protocols at the 1st ITS Cooperative Mobility Plugtest™ at the High Tech Automotive Campus in Helmond, the Netherlands. Of the fourteen companies and institutes that participated, nine are DRIVE C2X partners: CTAG, DENSO, Hitachi, Honda, NEC, NordSys, TNO, Vector, and VTT. Among the tested implementations were the DRIVE C2X reference software for the vehicle and roadside stations. The Plugtest was an essential milestone for the DRIVE C2X project before the DRIVE C2X functions testing.

In total, the participating companies and research institutes executed more than 750 interoperability tests. 90% of the tests indicated interoperability, which shows the high quality of the standards and the system specifications as well as the maturity of the technology and implementations.

In addition to interoperability among partners of the DRIVE C2X projects, the successful tests between DRIVE C2X and eCoMove implementations have verified the interoperability between the two major projects.

DRIVE C2X @ simTD, Friedberg, Germany

To promote cooperative driving DRIVE C2X has developed a dedicated campaign focusing on its various test sites all over Europe. DRIVE C2X @ simTD is the first event in this series taking place on October 13, 2011 in Friedberg, Germany. simTD is one of the main initiatives in Europe to set up a large scale FOT with cooperative systems.

On the test grounds near to Frankfurt/Main, simTD shows its V2V and V2I communication system which was especially developed for field operational testing. Amongst others demonstration vehicles, test bench, communication and control unit, vehicle application unit, ITS roadside stations and the simTD traffic management center will be presented. Selected functions can be experienced through live demonstrations.

simTD has recently completed its crucial milestone “system works in the test field” and is now on the verge of the field operational trial. In three workshop sessions the international C2X community is invited to discuss the results of simTD, to compare them with the outcome of other European FOTs, and to identify their potential impacts for the implementation of cooperative systems in Europe.

The sessions build on the three phases of a field operational trial:

  • preparation - the communication system and FOT framework,
  • operation - the test management and piloting,
  • evaluation - the methods and data requirements.

Each session will have a talk on the simTD approach, complemented or contrasted by a DRIVE C2X test site perspective and a short statement on the European dimension. After these push-talks, the floor is open to the workshop participants to challenge the speakers with their questions.

Please download the agenda for more detailed information.

Workshop on Cooperative Mobility services, Versailles, France

From 11 to 15 June 2012, cooperative mobility solution vendors will meet at IFSTTAR to test the interoperability of their communication components. This will be an opportunity for experts involved in the standardization, the development and the deployment of cooperative systems to present the principles of these technologies as well as their views about benefits and challenges of the cooperative systems. This workshop on benefits and deployment challenges will take place on 14 June 2012 at IFSTTAR, Versailles-Satory, involving members of DRIVE C2X and the C2X community.

The availability of appropriate V2V and V2I communication systems will allow proposing a wide range of application to the drivers:
• Safety application to warn drivers about potential dangers
• Application to broadcast information like parking availability
• Business applications like fleet management

Cooperative Mobility Services Plugtest, Versailles, France

The success of the previous Cooperative Mobility Services Plugtests™ event on ETSI ITS Transport and Networking communication layer protocols has led ERTICO and ETS to pursue their efforts in providing a further series of interoperability events for Cooperative Systems.

The next event is intended to focus on Facility protocols.

The aim of the interoperability program is to validate the ITS communication layer base standards and thus support the standardization process. Vendor to vendor test sessions will assess the level of interoperability and the correct understanding of the base standard requirements. By performing Plugtests, suppliers are preparing Cooperative ITS equipment for deployment according to the Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area.
